Blue Cheese Burger with Basil

By Jill Silverman Hough
This goes beyond a basic blue cheese burger with a thick blue cheese sauce, to better get blue cheesy flavor in every bite, plus basil, which beautifully complements the cheese. All in all, over-the-top.

INGREDIENTS

  • 80% lean ground beef
  • basil leaves
  • blue cheese
  • Dijon Mustard
  • ground black pepper
  • hamburger rolls
  • loosely packed mixed greens
  • Mayonnaise
  • Salt
  • thin slices red onion

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine the cheese, mayonnaise, and mustard in a small bowl
  2. Gently shape the beef into four patties about 3/4-inch thick. Sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet or a grill pan over medium heat until hot. Cook the patties to desired doneness, about 3 1/2 minutes per side for medium-rare.
  4. Set the patties aside to rest. Meanwhile, place the buns cut side down in the skillet or grill pan to slightly toast them, about 1 minute.
  5. Place the bun bottoms on plates or a platter. Top with the mixed greens, patties, onion, cheese mixture, basil, and bun tops and serve.
